Additionality Test
The project faces barriers due to the unavailability of finance, which made the financial returns of the project relatively unattractive in the absence of carbon credit revenues, compared with alternatives. The project also faced technological barriers due to its remote location, which resulted in a shortage of skilled staff to construct and operate the plant.
Social and environmental considerations
The project obtained a “no EIA required” ruling from the Turkish Ministry of Forestry and Environment. The project developer has planted 2,000 trees along the project site to compensate for construction-related disturbances. Twenty-three people from a nearby village were involved in the stakeholder consultation; local communities supported the project, largely on the basis of its potential to generate employment. No negative impacts were noted.
