Corporate sustainability projects exceeding all expectations

A new international survey by Accenture of 247 business executives revealed that 72 per cent believe that the benefits of sustainability initiatives exceed expectations.

68 per cent of business decision makers see sustainability as an integrated part of their business, while only 32 per cent view it as a peripheral matter. Almost half of respondents said that sustainability projects had helped to enhance stakeholders' trust in their firm, 42 per cent said that they had resulted in lower costs, and 41 per cent said that they had bolstered their brand equity.

"The good news is that companies are already seeing sustainability investments generate returns in terms of market success and cost performance," said Bruno Berthon, MD of Accenture Sustainability Services.

The survey did however show that a small minority of businesses still do not view sustainability as a critical or strategic investment.
