Over half of large companies make sustainable supply chain savings

The Carbon Disclosure Project's (CDP) 2011 Supply Chain report shows more than half of large businesses and a quarter of suppliers make cost savings when integrating carbon management into their procurement policies.

The survey of 57 multinational CDP members and 1,000 of their suppliers show that sustainable supply chain practices are becoming more common.

The report shows that as 50% of an average corporation’s carbon emissions are typically from the supply chain, integrating carbon management principles into procurement decisions has the potential for significant cost and emission savings.

17% of respondents (up for 11% last year) now use carbon management criteria as part of their supplier selection process.
